Commercial Services

NEP Energy Services is NEP’s trading arm - any profit they make is reinvested back into NEP’s fuel poverty projects - so you can feel good about hiring us! NEPes deliver energy efficiency surveys for public buildings designed to reduce energy costs and environmental impact.

Our main area of work is delivering Display Energy Certificates, and have longstanding contracts with Nottinghamshire County Council, Coventry City Council, The Spencer Academies Trust (8 primary schools) and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi-Academy Trust (21 primary and secondary schools).

We do much more for all business types - even building work! Please read on to learn more.

What we do

  • Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) rank a building’s energy efficiency through the use of a simple A-G rating.

  • Since July 9th 2015 all public buildings with a total floor area of 250m2 or greater must by law be in the possession of a valid Display Energy Certificate (DEC) and Advisory Report (AR).

DECs highlight the energy performance of building using a scale that runs from A to G, where A is very efficient and G is the least efficient. The rating is based on the actual amount of metered energy used by the building over a 12 month assessment period, while the Advisory Report contains recommendations for improving the energy efficiency of the building (i.e. its fabric and associated services such as heating, ventilation and lighting).

Where the building has a total floor area of 1,000m² or more, the DEC is valid for 12 months. The accompanying advisory report is valid for 7 years. For buildings with a floor area measuring 250m² – 999m², both the DEC and advisory report are valid for 10 years.

  • Going beyond legal compliance and certification, NEPes offer independent, in-depth energy efficiency surveys.

Recommendations made in the report provide sufficient detail to inform investment decisions, financing or funding applications.

The reports give details of the costs and savings for a range of energy efficiency measures suitable for your building and each report can be tailored specifically to suit your building and your requirements.

As a minimum, each survey will investigate:

    - Heating, Cooling & Ventilation

    - Lighting

    - Building fabric

    - Outline assessment of the potential for renewable energy generation

You will be provided with a site-specific energy survey report, detailing energy efficiency opportunities, their installation costs and likely savings potential.

  • A TM44 Assessment is an assessment completed on an air conditioning system.

Building owners and managers in England and Wales who are responsible for controlling air conditioning systems; with an effective rated output of more than 12kW, are required to ensure compliance with the regulations as set out by the government.

In addition, organisations seeking certification for ISO 14001 & ISO 18001 are also required to show compliance with government regulations for air conditioning units.

Regulations stipulate that inspections must be carried out regularly by an independent accredited energy assessor and must be no less than five years apart.

Failure to commission, keep or provide an air conditioning inspection report which has been lodged on to the Central Register could result in fines from £300 per offence (per building / unit). These fines could be repeated at the discretion of Trading Standards enforcement officer on a daily, monthly, quarterly or annual basis.

If you’d like us to quote for this assessment you will need to provide the following information:

    - Asset register of all air conditioning units – make/model/size etc

    - Site plan with the location of each unit

    - Scale site plan of all buildings

    - Record of maintenance documents for all air conditioning units

    - Method of control – if available

Below is an outline of what the TM44 inspection will include:

    - A visual assessment of the air conditioning system

    - An examination of the air conditioning equipment and controls

    - A review of sizing

Once the inspection is complete the assessor will issue a certificate and report, which will include the following:

    - The current efficiency of the equipment

    - Suggestions for improving the equipment’s efficiency

    - Any faults and suggested actions

    - How to reduce air conditioning use

    - Identify opportunities to replace older, less energy efficient or oversized systems with new energy efficient systems

  • What is an ESOS Energy Assessment?

It’s a nationally recognised assessment that measures energy use within your building(s), including any industrial processes and transport activity; it identifies ways to improve and reduce your energy consumption and suggests cost-effective energy saving measures to ultimately reduce your energy spend.

I your business is defined as a ‘large undertaking’ you will need to comply.

This is a mandatory assessment scheme for organisations that are classed as a ‘large undertaking’ (employs 250 or more people or has an annual turnover in excess of 50 million euro – £44,845,000). If you fall into this category but do not comply, unfortunately, The Environment Agency (scheme administrator) will enforce a fine, of between £5,000 and £50,000.

  • As well as recommending what energy efficiency improvements would be suitable for your site, we are accredited to install them. We can retrofit your building(s) to new energy efficiency heights!

Improvements include solid wall insulation, underfloor insulation, LED lighting and renewable technologies i.e. solar PV and solar PV battery storage.

We install solid wall insulation on a regular basis. This insulation system can be installed to the inside, or the outside of a building. Once installed it allows the building to retain it’s heat more effectively, allowing you to reduce the amount of time the heating is on for and also the temperature at which it’s set.

The outcome: lower heating bills and a reduction to your carbon emissions.

  • We do more than just energy surveys. We have a skilled team of accredited tradesman (builders, electricians, plumbers and joiners) who deliver general building repairs, to schedule and to the highest quality. NEPes’ Contracts Manager, Darren Barker oversees all jobs as standard.

An example of a recent job, contracted by Nottingham City Council’s Environmental Health Team: to rebuild a wall between two terrace streets in Sneinton, Nottingham.

Remember, we are a not for profit so our prices are competitive and as a registered Home Improvement Agency our services and quotes are trustworthy and genuine.
