Our Volunteers help make our work possible.

By volunteering with us, you can play a part in supporting our work to tackle fuel poverty, respond to climate change and strengthen community resilience across Nottinghamshire. Your involvement helps us reach more households, share practical advice, and support residents to live more sustainably. At the same time, you can support causes important to you, gain experience and be part of a friendly team working to make a positive difference.

Get Involved

There are lots of ways to get involved. Some volunteers join us at community action days, events and festivals, DIY club and more - taking action in their local area and helping people learn simple ways to live more sustainably and efficiently. Others support the charity behind the scenes with administration, research, communications and marketing, helping our projects run smoothly and reach the people who need them.

If you want to get involved, fill out our form to see the roles available. Let us know how you want to get involved and what you would like to get out of the experience (it's really important to us that the experience is mutually beneficial). It’s a short form and will only take approx. 5 minutes of your time!

Emma’s Volunteering Experience

Emma volunteered with the Green Meadows Project, just one of NEP’s many initiatives supporting Nottingham residents to live more sustainably. Find out how you could help below.

I first started volunteering at Green Meadows in June 2025. As a student just finishing first year, I wanted to gain experience but I wasn’t sure where to start - I knew that I was passionate about environmentalism and interested in a future in marketing. When I saw that volunteers were needed on my university careers website, I recognised the intersection of my interests and reached out.

Since then, over the months I have spent here I have learnt a diverse range of skills, including content creation, marketing, design, and more. I have had the opportunity to develop my professional knowledge while contributing to a really amazing project that has a truly positive impact in my home city. Firstly, I started with the Green Meadows Festival alongside Sarah and Kira; I took part in planning our Scavenger Hunt, where Hedgie the Hedgehog went on a eco-conscious educational journey for a prize at the end. Each day I spent differently, whether it was creating social media content, designing material needed, or writing for the festival. I enjoyed how much of my creativity I was able to pour into the project and how it felt to see it pay off at the end - the festival was a huge success and there was an amazing atmosphere, and our Scavenger Hunt was popular especially with the young children visiting.

Volunteering at Green Meadows has been a brilliant experience. As a student in Nottingham, deciding how best to spend your time can be difficult, but spending it volunteering can be very fulfilling - the connections you make with likeminded people are invaluable and your conscience is clear knowing you are doing your part in helping your community.

After the festival, I decided to stay on alongside my second year of university. I helped Patrick with our Community Consultation, which I found particularly insightful into understanding the internal processes behind determining things such as project funding and organisation. The community outreach, content creation and writing I did served me well in evolving my professional capacity in the marketing sector, and I found it interesting to delve into the successes of the project and how it has impacted not only the people of the Meadows but the wider Nottingham area

Additionally, one of my favourite projects was my web design for the Repair Café page. I was able to learn the steps of building and designing a web page, something I was completely new to at the time. Seeing the web page fully finished was a huge personal achievement, as I was at one point a total beginner. I also learnt more about the complexities and subtleties of building a brand which will serve me in the future when I leave University and enter full time employment.

I believe that volunteering is something everyone should do at least once in their lives - why not do it at NEP?
