Nottinghamshire Healthy Housing Service

We deliver a host of practical home energy improvements to people over 60 and families with young children, at risk from cold-related illnesses.

We are also a longstanding training provider in fuel poverty for local front-line staff. Our robust referral systems ensure clients, once referred, receive the support they need to live in a home that is healthy, safe and warm.

What do we offer?

Insulation & Heating Help

  • We have access to a range of grants and subsidies which can help to:

    - Insulate your loft and walls

    - Upgrade your boiler

    - Provide your existing boiler with a ‘Boiler Health Check’ to give you peace of mind that it is working properly and is safe.

  • Our team of advisers will complete an assessment form with you - this will form a picture of your home and also your circumstances, they will then be able to recommend which home energy upgrades or support services are right for you.

  • These services (and more) can help create more money in your pocket and in some cases improve your well-being:

    - Severn Trent Big Difference, if eligible you could save up to 90% off your water bill (we will make the application for you).

    - Power Up Health, notification of a planned power cut, and support during an unplanned cut. (for people who rely on electricity for a medical reason predominantly).

    - Food Bank Vouchers, if you are struggling to make ends meet we can refer you through for a food bank voucher to be used at your nearest centre (we can issue 3 within any 6 month period).

To help us understand what you are eligible for, please provide information about your property & circumstances.

Fuel Poverty Training for front-line staff

  • Our Improving Health Through Warmer Homes training is to better prepare front-line staff to spot the signs of fuel poverty and refer individuals to practical services that will make a difference to their home, health and well being.

  • Over the 25 years the course has been running we have trained over 4,800 staff. Professions have included Nurses, Health Visitors, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Home Care Assistants, Housing and Advice Center staff and Fire-fighters, plus many more.

  • Our course is designed to introduce health professionals and frontline staff to the major public health issue of fuel poverty and excess winter deaths, caused by the inability to afford to stay warm.

Individuals attending the course will be shown how to spot the signs of fuel poverty and how to make a referral to the Healthy Housing Service to access the range of energy, housing and health interventions to improve the thermal efficiency of the home, reduce fuel bills and improve health and well being.

  • It’s a free course and only 45 minutes long.

The format is an informal presentation followed by time for any questions.

It is delivered at a time and place that suits your team – typically in a team meeting, so no travel costs for you!

Improving Health through Warmer Homes typically receives excellent feedback from front line staff.
