Hydraulic Ram Pump

The Hydraulic Ram Pump or Hydram is a remarkable technology. It is a water powered water pump, invented over 200 years ago by the Mongolfier brothers, who also invented the hot air balloon.

The Hydram was widely used in Victorian times as a water pumping technology, powering fountains and home water supply. The technology fell out of favour with the advent of cheap electricity, powerful fuel powered pumps and mains water. With rising power costs and a greater emphasis on zero carbon technologies the Hyraulic ram pump has been rediscovered.

The briefing document provides a basic introduction to the technology. The information sheet soon to be added will give a more detailed explanation of economics, suppliers, installation and case studies.
