Wood Heat
ReNU is a 'Not for Profit' social enterprise developed from the Nottinghamshire County Council's Wood Heat project. Its main role is the development of the renewable energy market place and supply chains in Nottinghamshire and The East Midlands, developing locally owned capacity for producing heat and power. Our initial area of development is biomass - wood heat. Biomass is a priority low carbon technology, as identified by The Carbon Trust.
What are our objectives?
Our main objectives are to:
- Establish the rural wood heat supply chain and infrastructure.
- Develop other small locally owned social enterprises, stimulating local consumption of locally produced fuels, achieving local wealth retention.
- Strengthen rural diversification and attract investment into the region.
- Analyse the wood fuel supply and demand within the region
- Raise awareness of the use of wood heat for generating electricity and heat.
What are our current activities?
ReNU are currently in the process of purchasing capital equipment including specialist machinery and equipment, funded by the East Midlands Development Agency emda, to establish the physical infrastructure around fuel production, quality and delivery.
Equipment will be available to other organisations regionally to hire to help grow the total biomass market in The East Midlands, thus creating and safeguarding jobs.
Our equipment includes:
- A multi-use, 8 wheel truck with loader, fitted with a priden airbulk blower, for quick, effective delivery of wood pellets throughout the region.
- A site loader for lifting, loading and forestry management.
- A pulveriser/shredder for waste wood
- A power screen for effective screening of wood material including wood chips.
- A Ford Ranger works delivery vehicle with trailer for small scale pellet deliveries.
- A Bandit 280XP chipper with a variable flow hydraulic feed system capable of handling 28 meters per minute. Complete with 55" diameter chipper discs with knife pockets and XP chip throwers.
- A mobile pellet machine
- A bag loader and bags ideal for holding pellets.
For more information on equipment, please contact ReNU.
ReNU are also in the process of commissioning several studies to gain further understanding on the availability of wood fuel resource, the size of the market for the use of wood fuel and the availability of biomass boilers throughout the UK. These studies will be enhancing the region's understanding and intelligence of wood fuel supply and demand, highlighting opportunities for development.
ReNU currently supply wood fuel to a number of wood heat installations including schools in Nottinghamshire, Garibaldi, West Bridgford, and Ranskill School.
ReNU are currently working with other companies in the region and are undertaking feasibility studies on a number of other sites throughout the East Midlands. including Belvoir Castle.
Why ReNU?
Companies like ReNU are needed to develop renewable energy projects which support local security of energy supply in the long term and which offer price stability. The ReNU project is a national first and puts the region at the leading edge of renewable and specifically biomass installations. These factors are increasingly important with the imminent rise of gas prices. Choosing wood heat enables:
- Development of the rural economy and local wealth retention
- Ongoing reduction of CO2 emissions and improved resource efficiency through reduced use of fossil fuels.
- Reduced waste to landfill by using clean waste wood in bio fuel.
- ReNU enables stable and secure availability of machinery and transport
