SunGain

Installer and family

Background information

SunGain is a Nottinghamshire / Derbyshire Local Authority Energy Partnership (LAEP) initiative to install solar hot water systems in public and private sector homes, project managed by Nottingham Energy Partnership.

The project has installed approximately 120 solar hot water units so far, thereby demonstrating the practical use of a renewable energy resource and the positive role of renewables within the overall context of energy efficiency and climate change.

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) and Nottingham City Council provided funding for an initial feasibility study. The EST Innovation Programme provided funding for a further 2 years. Capital grant funding comes from the Clear Skies programme and the Local Authority Energy Partnership (LAEP).

Local Installers have been trained and accredited to supply appropriate systems selected through a rigorous tender process. Quality Assurance is managed by private consultants T4 Sustainability.

Environmental action and free hot water

We all know that the burning of fossil fuels has thrown the Earth's atmosphere out of balance.  Too much carbon dioxide has created the 'Greenhouse effect' which traps heat in the upper atmosphere and leads to 'Climate change'.  Using a solar hot water system instead of gas, electricity or oil will cut carbon dioxide emissions and other air pollutants.

Of course you have to pay for the system at the outset, before you can enjoy free hot water, but installing a system through SunGain reduces the cost to the minimum.

SunGain will provide you with all the application forms, the information, accredited systems and accredited installers in order for you to be eligible for a clear Skies grant.

Prices and grants

The Local Authority Energy Partnership has been awarded grants from various sources including The Energy Saving Trust, to bring down the cost of solar hot water.  The grants coupled with a 'cashback' Low Carbon Buildings Programme Grant of £400 for each customer, will allow householder within the two counties to install a solar hot water system for less than the typical cost.
