Last night, Beeston Fire Station played host to the 2012 Broxtowe Borough Partnership Awards.
The awards celebrate the achievements of real-life community champions who help make their community a more pleasant place to live by submitting their nominations.
Nottingham Energy Partnership nominated ‘Greening Beeston’ for the ‘Clean and Green Borough’ category, and at the end of the night they walked away with the title!
Over the last year Greening Beeston made up of six local people decided to develop a community renewable energy project after securing £5,000 of ‘Climate Communities’ funding via the regional climate change partnership.
Working closely with Nottingham Energy Partnership (NEP) and the local authority the group identified 20 sites that could benefit and is suitable for a solar PV system or wind turbine.
Support from NEP supported the group through concept, site selection, design and planning to having a specification ready for installers to provide quotes. Along the way NEP worked with the group to help in decision making and education around the process, so that for the next project the group would have more of the skills to undertake the development themselves
