NEP’s £4.2 million solid wall insulation scheme, Aspley Super Warm Zone launched into the private sector in March. The scheme offers a host of home energy improvements with 80% of the cost paid for by a grant of up to £8,000, provided by Scottish and Southern Energy.

To help customers with their contribution NEP has partnered up with Nottingham Credit Union to provide a no interest free loan.

All households receive solid wall insulation as standard; those with a ‘G’ rated boiler receive an ‘A’ rated replacement.   Loft top-ups are also applied if needed.  Every household should see a reduction in their fuel bill after the install. Solid wall insulation alone can save a home up to £400 a year. The insulation paired with a new ‘A’ rated boiler can lead to savings of up to £600.

Main project installers Westville Insulation, have been up against wet conditions which has slowed the application of external wall insulation, as several days of dry weather are needed for it to be applied, but residents are being really understanding.

With a target of 400 private homes on top of the 650 social housing homes by December 2012 it is vital households in the designated area sign up and benefit from the savings and comfort the scheme delivers.  With marketing and support from local councillors there are now 140 private households on the books.

Local resident Harold Close had his home externally insulated and believes the scheme really lifts the area “Yes the money saving side is great, but I also think it aesthetically lifts the appearance for the area, it encourages people to take pride in their home again”.  Read Harold's project case study

Anthony Ford received internal and external wall insulation, he also had a new ‘A’ rated boiler installed “We were gob smacked to find out we were eligible for the grant, the money we paid was only a fraction of the total cost”.  Read Anthony's project case study.
