Mrs Whitehead:  £49 loft insulation (NottWZ)

“For the service and the difference it’s made to our home, I’d pay double!”

Background
Susan, mother of two, lives in Clifton with her husband.  Living in a concrete house, the walls suffer with damp, so in an effort to alleviate this and to make her home warmer her husband installed internal wall insulation in most of the rooms.  Already having their energy efficient heads on, when they received the  NottWZ self assessment form they returned it straight away to see what other measures could help them keep warm and save money.

Measures
The Whiteheads had 10” of loft insulation installed.

Benefits
Having the loft done means they are now retaining up to 15% of heat previously lost through the roof,  it gave them the push to clear out their loft and prompted them to redecorate and finish off the remainder of the solid wall insulation.

Costs
The price of the loft insulation was £49 as Susan and her husband are under 65 and not in receipt of any
benefits.  This is the best price in the East Midlands.

Money Saved
As this was a ‘virgin’ loft the newly installed loft insulation could save them up to £160 per year on their fuel bills.

Additionally...
“We never used to feel a temperature difference between the top floor and the loft, now we do, it’s almost too cold to spend anytime in the loft.  It just proves how good a barrier insulation is”.
