Press Release: Flu clinic patients receive extra care to help them keep well and warm this winter

6 October 2016

For the 12th year running The Greater Nottingham Healthy Housing Service (GNHHS) is supporting NHS England’s national flu jab campaign by promoting Winter Warmth at over 30 Flu Clinics in Nottingham City, Rushcliffe, Gedling
and Broxtowe.

This year the team is promoting energy efficiency improvement grants and raising awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide to flu’s most at risk groups.

Improvement grants and advice services include:

• Boiler Servicing - free and subsidised

• Free and subsidised boiler replacement

• Free loft and cavity wall insulation

• Energy switching advice

Most services are subject to eligibility.

If the team is not present at your particular flu clinic feel free to call them on
0115 985 3009 or visit their web page www.healthy-housing-service.com to see
if you can benefit.

Here's how the service helped Mrs Akhtar

Mrs Akhtar from Bilborough benefitted from a subsidised Boiler Service and
subsidised Boiler Replacement all as a result of picking up a Healthy Housing leaflet
at her flu clinic – the Boiler Service also identified that her old boiler was leaking carbon monoxide, a very poisonous gas.

Mrs Akhtar said “Without this service I would not have a clue what to do. My husband is over the moon with the boiler replacement and we have peace of mind that our boiler is safe”.

By helping vulnerable households to keep their home warm and cheaper to run, the service will reduce the impact of flu on patients and help towards lowering the strain
on our local health services.

Healthy Housing is managed by climate change charity Nottingham Energy Partnership and funded by public health within Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council. Their core aim is to tackle fuel poverty and alleviate the factors that contribute to NHS winter pressures.
